She gave up being a vegan.
I went low-carb and used myfitnesspal to track my calories and exercise (which consisted of biking to work.) But then a month later, I found the paleo/primal diet. I read Robb Wolf’s book, The Paleo Solution and Mark Sisson’s book The Primal Blueprint and changed up my diet even more. I stopped eating grains, vegetable oils, legumes, and sugars. I started eating meat, eggs, full fat dairy, and even more vegetables than I was eating before. I stopped tracking my calories and started focusing on high quality real food.
I really like to cook and play with recipes so it really varies!
We have a share in a meat CSA so every month we get different cuts of meat which is awesome and makes meal planning easier (or harder, because even the internet does not have recipes for goat ribs!)
A typical dinner would be some sort of meat, salad, a vegetable and depending on my mood something starchy like potatoes/sweet potatoes or even rice. (I’ve got an active kid who needs more carbs to keep the crabbiness at bay!) Since it’s summer we’ve been grilling a lot. But I’ll make chili or stewy things (like Bamia which is a middle eastern lamb and okra stew) or stir fry-ish things.
Last night we had tenderloin steaks with cognac/mustard sauce (recipe from epicurious.com) Tonight I’m going to roast a chicken. Tomorrow friends are coming over and I’m planning on making grilled goat and lamb chops with some sort of Indian-spiced veggies.
Later this month I’m going to make anchovy/rosemary rubbed lamb ribs, meat stuffed zucchini and summer squash, taco salad (with ground beef,) hamburgers, lamb burgers, thai green curry, beef with roasted peppers and smoked paprika, meatballs (with hidden liver!!) and tomato sauce, Italian wedding soup (w/o beans)
